passgen was written in response to the lack of a usefull password generator, which I beleive should be standard issue for any multi-user machine. passgen generates passwords which comply to the 4 rules of a good password as outlined on the Linuxbuilt passwords page.

Bogofilter

Bogofilter is a mail filter that classifies mail as spam or ham (non-spam) by a statistical analysis of the message’s header and content (body). The program is able to learn from the user’s classifications and corrections.

The statistical technique is known as the Bayesian technique and its use for spam was described by Paul Graham in his article A Plan For Spam in August 2002. Gary Robinson, in his weblog Rants (September 2002), suggested some refinements for improved discrimination between spam and ham. Bogofilter’s primary algorithm uses the f(w) parameter and the Fisher inverse chi-square technique that he describes. Paul Graham’s new article Better Bayesian Filtering (January 2003) suggests some useful parsing improvements.

Bogofilter is run by an MDA script to classify an incoming message as spam or ham (using wordlists stored by BerkeleyDB). Bogofilter provides processing for plain text and html. It supports multi-part mime message with decoding of base64, quoted-printable, and uuencoded text and ignores attachments, such as images.

Bogofilter is written in C. Supported platforms: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS X, HP-UX, AIX, RISC OS, SunOS, OS/2 …

Note: For advanced local spam filtering while using KMail, use Bogofilter

Music Player Daemon (MPD) allows remote access for playing music (MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Mod, and wave files) and managing playlists. MPD is designed for integrating a computer into a stereo system that provides control for music playback over a local network. It is also makes a great desktop music player, especially if you are a console junkie, like frontend options, or restart X often.

Note: Rename and edit included /etc/mpd.conf.example before starting for the first time.
Also requires some libraries, libmad, flac, libmikmod, audiofile, libvorbis - All available here or in official slackware repository

MPlayer

MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems (see the documentation). It plays most MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5 and even WMV movies..

Another great feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, AAlib, DirectFB, but you can use GGI, SDL (and this way all their drivers), VESA (on every VESA compatible card, even without X11!) and some low level card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and ATI), too! Most of them support software or hardware scaling, so you can enjoy movies in fullscreen. MPlayer supports displaying through some hardware MPEG decoder boards, such as the Siemens DVB, DXR2 and DXR3/Hollywood+.

MPlayer has an onscreen display (OSD) for status information, nice big antialiased shaded subtitles and visual feedback for keyboard controls. European/ISO 8859-1,2 (Hungarian, English, Czech, etc), Cyrillic and Korean fonts are supported along with 12 subtitle formats (MicroDVD, SubRip, OGM, SubViewer, Sami, VPlayer, RT, SSA, AQTitle, JACOsub, PJS and our own: MPsub). DVD subtitles (SPU streams, VOBsub and Closed Captions) are supported as well.

Note: Currently there are no skins in this package. That’s because most of the people don’t use gmplayer, but front-ends like smplayer. If you need skin, download from the homepage.

GNU Parted is an industrial-strength package for creating, destroying, resizing, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, copying data on hard disks and disk imaging.

It contains a library, libparted, and a command-line frontend, parted, which also serves as a sample implementation and script backend.
